After using Clinisept+ Mouthwash for the last few months, we spoke to Filipe Amante about his experience and what his patients thought.
How long have you been using Clinisept+ Mouthwash for?
I have been using Clinisept+ Mouthwash in my clinical practice for nearly a year now. I must confess I have been extremely pleased with it so far.
Do you use Clinisept+ Mouthwash on all patients coming into the surgery? Or do you recommend it for patients undergoing a particular procedure?
The prescription of any medical product is a serious clinical decision. We should tailor to the patient’s individual needs.
With this in mind I wouldn’t recommend this or any other product for use by all of my patients as a rule of thumb. Nevertheless I strongly believe that Clinisept+ can definitely benefit a wide range of patients.
A great percentage of my daily clinical practice involves oral surgery and dental implant procedures. I’ve found this mouthwash extremely helpful pre and post-operately.
Furthermore, and after some months of using it and assessing its effectiveness, I’ve found it an efficient oral cleanser and therefore have been recommending it as part of a comprehensive oral hygiene regime in patients that can benefit from its antimicrobial protection against the agents that cause periodontal disease and tooth decay.
Why did you switch to using Clinisept+?
For years chlorhexidine-based mouthwashes have been the gold standard pre and post-operately in oral surgery, dental implants and periodontics.
The dental school years engraved the anti-bacterial effect and other multiple benefits of clorhexidine mouthwashes in my mind. By default I’ve regarded them as the go-to option when prescribing a mouthwash. Quite frankly, I couldn’t really remember any other decent alternative options.
I had the opportunity to trial Clinisept+ Mouthwash for my implant patients about a year ago.
I must confess that at first I faced this with initial scepticism. After all I was using the same mouthwash for this purpose for years.
But the experience has been extremely positive and since then I haven’t looked back!
How long do you recommend patients use Clinisept+ Mouthwash for?
I would typically recommend it pre-operately before an implant or oral surgery procedure. And post-operately for use two/three times daily for approximately two weeks (usually until it’s time to remove the sutures).
In patients with some oral hygiene difficulties or periodontal issues I’ve been recommending it as a daily mouthwash as an alternative to chlorhexidine-based products.
How much of an impact do you feel it has had on your practice and patient outcomes?
The feedback I get from my patients is very positive. There hasn’t been many complaints about the taste or about other side effects you get with some mouthwashes.
Clinically, I have also noticed improvement on post-operative healing outcomes. Both in terms of soft tissue quality but also in the healing time.
Which benefits do you usually see, or do your patients report, when a patient uses Clinisept+ mouthwash verses other mouthwashes?
It was frequent to hear some patients complaining about the strong and minty taste of our previous mouthwashes.
In certain cases patients would use them for longer periods or more frequently than advised. They would get some annoying stains as a result.
Since we started using Clinisept+, our patients haven’t mentioned these problems. This has helped with patient compliance and has consequently, in several cases, contributed to improved oral hygiene and reduced incidence or complications.
Are there any other benefits?
I can’t say that I have encountered many allergic reactions to mouthwashes during my career. But I can definitely point out that a pleasant or tolerable taste, no resulting staining or other adverse side-effects, as well as improved soft-tissue healing are pretty strong benefits when choosing a mouthwash for both patients and clinicians.
How do you sell Clinisept+ Mouthwash to your patients?
In the majority of the cases I tend to open a new bottle of Clinisept+ and use it as a pre-operative rinse. Afterwards I would refer our patients to use it post-operately at home.
Having a package of post-surgical care is a great way of showing our patients that we care for them all the way through their treatment. Clinisept+ is an excellent add-on to this experience.
Do you have any other comments regarding Clinisept+ Mouthwash?
In summary this is a product that I’m truly excited about. The results that I’ve obtained so far are very promising.
I am definitely going to continue to use it for my patients. I sincerely believe that it may well become a game-changer in preventing, managing and treating oral problems in the near future.
