The European Association for Osseointegration (EAO) has published an essential guide for practitioners in the field of implant dentistry.

‘Key points for clinical practice’ provides an accessible summary of the findings from the 2018 EAO Consensus Conference and shines a light on many challenges currently facing clinicians. See https://www.eao.org/mpage/kpfcp

The EAO Consensus Conference takes place every three years. During the event, over 60 leading experts are invited to discuss emerging techniques and hot topics in the field, and come up with their recommendations for best practice. Their findings are then published in the Clinical Oral Implants Research (COIR) journal as a comprehensive, open-access supplement.

Key points for clinical practice

In order to spread the findings further and make them more accessible, the EAO has published its ‘Key points for clinical practice’. The report was written by a group of dentists who were invited to attend the conference and observe the discussions. It provides a clear summary of the findings and gives readers key facts to include in their clinical practice.

The topics selected for discussion during the 2018 EAO Consensus Conferences were particularly relevant to clinical practice. Participants tackled the following themes: Drugs and diseases; Biological parameters; Reconstructions; Biomechanical aspects. These were broken down into several sub-topics and debated at length. ‘Key points for clinical practice’ follows the same structure and covers each topic in a helpful ‘Question and answer’ format, so readers can get the answers and take-home messages they need.

The EAO has developed a dedicated microsite so users can explore the report. It has also been translated into nine languages (English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Italian, Russian, Korean, and Japanese), and all editions will be available to download from the microsite. An additional version, translated to Swedish, will be published in the Journal of the Swedish Dental Association.

This guide will be the key to unlock the findings from the EAO Consensus Conference and will be available online from 11 October 2018.
