Dr Chris Butterworth of Liverpool Dental Hospital is this year’s joint winner of the above prize for his paper entitled ‘Primary vs. secondary zygomatic implant placement in head and neck cancer patients – a 10 year prospective study’.
In his paper, Chris showed the use of zygomatic implants to provide remote anchorage in the management of oro-facial malignancy with the implants being placed at the time of primary tumour resection is a predictable prosthetic treatment resulting in high implant survival and usability.
In presenting the prize Dr Brian Schottlander complemented him on combining the provision of high-quality clinical care to vulnerable patients with a meticulous follow-up on the success of the treatment.
