To celebrate 25 years of Dentistry magazine, we’ve asked leading dental professionals for their game-changing innovation that shaped their career. In this article we asked Alfonso Rao what his game-changing product is.
Dr Alfonso Rao was born in Italy graduating with distinction from the University of Chieti.
He worked as an oral surgeon at hospitals in Pescara, Caserta and Napoli until 2009.
Dr Rao then started working in England in several clinics between Bristol, Bath and Cheltenham.
Dr Rao is the owner of Queen Square Dental Clinic.
As well as being a member of the Association of Dental Implantology and ITi he is an accredited Straumann mentor.
Dr Rao also has a keen interest in cosmetic orthodontics (Six Month Smiles and Invisalign) as well as complex smile makeovers using teeth whitening, porcelain crowns and dental veneers.
Dental implants
Dental implant technology has greatly improved, so that it is possible for patients to replace missing teeth with implants better than ever before.
I personally use Straumann dental implants.
Some of their innovations have made my clinical protocols more efficient and predictable for my patients.
SLA active, Roxolid, digital workflow, and lately BLX, are only some of the new products from the last few years.
Straumann highly customises the restorative solutions it offers.
Obviously it’s essential to keep in mind that every treatment plan needs to be patient-focused.
The increased range of products available nowadays makes it easier to tailor make the treatments to meet patients needs.
Cone beam radiology
It has already radically transformed the way that we as dentists can gather information.
The result being an ability to diagnose and treatment plan in a manner that previously we couldn’t imagine.
The advantages of ultra low dose and reduced cost of this technology has made CT scanning more available.
Resulting in huge benefits for clinicians and patients.
