The Great Clinical Paper Debate is Biohorizons’ latest symposium, coming soon after its highly successful Magic ‘i’ Symposium in October 2017. This latest event will bring together key high profile dental implant specialists, who will take to the stage to debate some of the industry’s hottest topics.
Taking place on Friday 16 February 2018 at Royal College of Physicians, London, the symposium will focus on three key areas of implant dentistry.
Grafting debate
In the first of the day’s debates, ‘Allograft vs xenograft: the natural choice’, leading specialist Anthony Summerwill will defend the use of allograft techniques in implant dentistry. Anthony is a highly experienced dentist with extensive skills in all elements of restorative dentistry, including dental implants, prosthodontics and periodontology. Rob Oretti, co-clinical director of Pentangle Dental Transformations, orthodontist, implant expert and post-graduate teacher will take the side of xenograft.
Rob and Anthony will state the case for each of the two grafting materials and discuss what drives the final choice, helping you to consider the arguments for both next time you are faced with the choice.
Digital or analogue?
Adam Nulty and David Murnaghan will debate the very topical issue of ‘Digital vs analogue: the future of implant dentistry’.
Adam Nulty is a highly experienced clinician with a special interest in restorative and aesthetic dentist and implant dentistry. David Murnaghan is the regional director of the Northern Ireland division of the Faculty of the Royal College of Surgeons England and was the youngest person to be appointed to this directorship. David also owns Boyne Dental and Implant Clinic, a bespoke five-surgery practice in Navan, Ireland.
David and Adam will consider how effective the new age of digital dentistry is proving to be, and will question if there is still a place for more traditional techniques, which are backed-up by years of proven evidence.
Hard versus soft
The final debate, ‘Hard tissue vs soft tissue: the response to surface technology’, will take place between Marcus Beschnidt and Jack Ricci.
Marcus is one of Germany’s top medical professionals and is an expert in microsurgery, implant dentistry and cosmetic dentistry. John Ricci is an associate professor and a director of the Masters program in biomaterials at NYU College of Dentistry, and the director of the biomaterials PhD training track at the Sackler Institute at NYU School of Medicine.
Marcus and John will discuss the benefits of hard versus soft tissue in creating primary stability with implants, and examine how each responds to the implant.
A wealth of information
All debates will be moderated by Stephen Jacobs, an implant dentist with global experience who now lectures on all aspects of implant dentistry across the world. Stephen also runs his own implant referral practice in Glasgow.
The full day schedule also includes a one-hour lecture on ‘Making implant dentistry isy’, by Carlos Repullo.
Carlos has 20 years of dental implant experience, is the owner of the Seville-based Caddental training centre and currently practices in Seville. He has been a user of Cerec since 2011 and is a certified Cerec trainer by ISCD, and a graduate of the Sirona Speaker Academy. Carlos will be taking a look at new technologies designed to help you make implant dentistry ‘i-sy’.
The Great Clinical Paper Debate promises to bring a wealth of information to dental professionals at this one-day symposium. In addition, there will be plenty of opportunity for attendees to mingle with other dental professionals and continue their discussions over coffee, lunch and drinks, all day and into the early evening. Dental providers will also be exhibiting in the communal area.
The symposium will be worth seven hours of CPD and there is no charge to attend.
